WINAICO präsentierte patentierte SiC HeatCap-Technologie und 300-W-Modulserie auf PV  Expo in Japan

Taiwans größter PV-Modulhersteller WINAICO präsentierte ihre Produkthighlights auf der größten B2B-Messe für PV in Japan: der PV Expo 2015.  Das Fachpublikum zeigte großes Interesse an den Neuerungen: HeatCap mit SiC (Siliziumkarbid) erhöht die Zuverlässigkeit von siliziumbasierten Solarzellen und schützt vor Mikrorissen durch äußere mechanische Belastungen wie beispielsweise unsachgemäße Handhabung und Windlasten. Die SiC-Technologie sorgt bei PERC-basierten Hocheffizienz-Modulen (48  Zellen) für eine perfekte Mischung aus hoher Ausgangsleistung und Zuverlässigkeit. Die enorme Leistungsfähigkeit und Zuverlässigkeit der WINAICO-Module mit HeatCap-Technologie wurde kürzlich mit der Auszeichnung des Taiwan Excellent PV Award des Bureau of Energy anerkannt. Zudem präsentierte WINAICO an seinem Messestand das weltweit erste PERC-basierte Hocheffizienz-Modul WSP-300M6 (60  Zellen) mit 300W. WINAICO erreicht den Energieverlust von Zelle zu Modul auf unter 1% zu senken und erzielt damit eine marktführende Effizienz bei 4-Busbar-Solarzellen der aktuellen Generation – ein echter Leistungsvorsprung.

Tests in den WINAICO-Prüflaboren zeigen, dass HeatCap die mechanische Belastbarkeit einer Silizium-Solarzelle vor der Rissbildung um bis zu 18,12% erhöht. WINAICO hat zudem Taiwans führendes, unabhängiges Forschungsinstitut ITRI mit der Bewertung der Zuverlässigkeit der HeatCap-Technologie bei dynamischen mechanischen Lasten (DML) und punktuellen thermischen Belastungen (Hotspots) beauftragt. HeatCap-Module und Referenzmodule mussten 1.000 DML-Testzyklen mit jeweils 1.000Pa, 2.000Pa und 3.000Pa absolvieren, wobei die Elektrolumineszenzbilder ausgewertet wurden. Gegenüber den Referenzmodulen wiesen die HeatCap-Module deutlich weniger Mikrorisse nach den einzelnen DML-Testläufen auf. In den Hotspot-Tests konnte WINAICO nachweisen, dass die HeatCap-Technologie die Wärmeableitung verbessert und somit die Solarzellentemperatur im Vergleich zu den Referenzzellen senkt. HeatCap löst das bei Modulen mit schwarzer Rückseitenfolie häufig auftretende Wärmeproblem und steigert die Ausgangsleistung rein schwarzer Module in wärmeren Einsatzgebieten.

Solar energy powers innovation at Cook Medical

World leading medical device manufacturer, Cook Medical, has taken one giant leap to reduce its carbon footprint and power bill, by installing a 706 square metre field of solar panels on its roof in Brisbane. The installation is the largest of its kind in Asia Pacific, utilising advanced solar panel technology called PERC (passivated emitter- rear contact).

"We have a roof and lots of sun, so harnessing solar power was an obvious solution to reduce costs for us and the environment. The investment was significant, but even so we expect our solar panels will pay for themselves within 15 years," Barry Thomas, Cook Medical Vice President and Managing Director of Cook Medical Australia said. "Using alternative energy to power manufacturing still isn't mainstream, but given the benefits it's completely logical. We've chosen an extremely efficient technology, and the panels are now offsetting on average 30 per cent of the power we use each day."

The installation of the panels was finished in January, and was carried out by local company, Positronic Solar, who recommended and installed the custom-design. John Inglis, Director of Positronic Solar was impressed by Cook Medical's commitment to alternative energy. "When we put in our proposal we were very honest about what was achievable and the best technology for Cook Medical's solar panels. They appreciated our straightforward approach, and chose an effective solution to offset a significant majority of their power use," said Mr Inglis. "The design utilises Schneider-Electric inverters and WINAICO high efficiency PERC 280 W monocrystalline modules – some of the most advanced technology available. The panels are not only efficient even in low light, but also perform very well at high temperatures – which is of course very important here in Queensland."

Questacon engages with sustainable technology

Now, Questacon has extended its investments in new technology and energy sustainability further with an innovative and high-tech photovoltaic (PV) solar power station installed on its roof top.

The solar system has been designed for installation across the many roof areas of the centre in July 2014 by Laros Technologies, and uses over 360 WINAICO PV modules, having a nominal generation capacity of 94  kW.  It is expected that the PV system will supply approximately 10% of Questacon's annual electricity requirements.  

The very professional installation of the Questacon PV system was undertaken by Shepherd Electrical.

The WINAICO modules offer performance reliability and system security through both their excellent construction and performance characteristics, coupled with the unique system-wide insurance coverage that comes automatically with WINAICO PV modules.

Another unique and important technology component in the Questacon PV system is the use of the aerodynamically assisted, self-ballasted, non-roof-penetrating 'Ilzosave' PV module mounting system from the German company Ilzosurf and supplied by LAROS Technologies in Australia.
This technology makes use of the wind movement passing over the modules to actually create a partial vacuum under the modules, which in turn makes them 'hug' the roof surface, and become very resistant to being moved by the wind.

The success of the project would not have been possible without the substantial planning and design that was done in preparation for the installation. An array of challenges presented themselves, such as the inclusion of Questacon in the Parliamentary Triangle and the associated aesthetic design considerations, difficult roof area shapes and access, meeting the delicate structural loading requirements of certain roof areas, and substantial shading and solar access management around the iconic structures of the Questacon building, all yielded solutions as the LAROS team applied their extensive expertise and innovative approaches to the project.
